WHY
A large complex national infrastructure programme focussed on digitalising the UK’s energy network (SMART Metering) suffered with integration issues within the business environment. The programme was plagued with performance issues, security concerns linear methods of increasing capacity. The programme had several diverse suppliers and government-set deadlines to also contend with. The integration into the business environment was imperative for sustainable national infrastructure.
HOW
We were given the task to analyse the non-functional side of the programme and design key areas to focus on. Influential leadership was a requirement due to the complex contracting with suppliers, and how they would be affected by the change. The change was also highly dependent on effective collaboration between all suppliers, so our focus was on the building of key relationships first.
WHAT
We designed four main components for non-functional systems integration for the technical infrastructure programme. After one year all suppliers had been on-boarded to the non-functional projects. We then went on to further develop a testing centre of excellence to standardised how future projects would be tested. This helped our client to receive another five years of programme funding from the UK Government at a value of 230million GBP.
