WHY
A large, complex national infrastructure programme aimed at digitalising the UK’s energy network (SMART Metering) faced significant integration challenges, including performance issues, security risks, and inefficient capacity scaling. With multiple suppliers and strict government deadlines, successful business integration was critical to ensuring a sustainable national infrastructure.
HOW
Our task was to analyse the programme’s non-functional aspects and identify key focus areas. Given the complexity of supplier contracts and their sensitivity to change, strong leadership was essential. Since successful implementation relied heavily on supplier collaboration, we prioritised building strong relationships to drive effective cooperation.
WHAT
We designed four core components for non-functional systems integration (Performance, Capacity, Security, Disaster Recovery) within the technical infrastructure programme. Within a year, all suppliers were fully onboarded. We then established a testing centre of excellence to standardise future project testing, which enabled our client to secure an additional five years of government funding worth £230 million.
